The defending League and Provincial Champion Langley Warriors advanced to the WCSLA semi-finals after a two-game sweep of the Coquitlam Adanacs in the best-of-3 quarter-final. Sunday July 23rd in Coquitlam, the Warriors fell behind early, but rallied to take a 6-4 advantage into the first intermission and increased the lead to 8-5 by the end of the second period. The Adanacs closed the gap to two goals early in the final frame but that was a close as they would get as the Warriors responded with three tallies to put the game out of reach. The two Dereks - Lowe and Cousins - each had a goal and two assists to lead Langley scoring. The Warriors outshot the Adanacs 60-45, with Joe Bell stopped 38 of 45 shots for the win.
Wednesday July 19th, the Warriors triumphed 12-6 on home floor in Game 1 of the series. The teams were tied at one after 20 minutes, but the Adanacs blasted out to the gate with three goals in the first four minutes of the second period to take the lead, which led to a goaltending change that seemed to wake up the hosts who responded with five straight goals and ended up heading into the final frame with a three goal bulge. Another four goals in the third period vs. one late goal by the visitors secured the victory. Kerry Susheski, with five assists, led Warriors scoring while Ryley Brown and starter Bell combined to stop 35 of 41 shots in goal.
The Warriors will now face the Royal City Capitals in the best-of-5 semi-final series. Game 1 is set for Wednesday July 26th at Bill Copeland Sports Centre in Burnaby, while Game 2 goes Friday July 28th at George Preston Recreation Centre - face-off at 8:00pm. Game 3 will be Sunday July 30th in New Westminster.
