The Ladner Pioneers returned to form on home floor Thursday July 6th with an 18-7 pounding of the visiting Langley Warriors despite being outshot 54-51. The Pioneers led 4-3 after one period but exploded for 10 goals while only surrendering 3 in the second period and finished things off outscoring the Warriors 4-1 in the final frame. Junior A call-up Spencer Bromley, in his 2017 season debut, led Pioneers scoring with three goals and three assists, while Rob Cook returned between the pipes and was outstanding, stopping 47 of 54 shots. The Pioneers then hosted the Victoria Wolves in an afternoon match Saturday July 8th and squeaked out a 7-6 victory to clinch first place in league standings. After Victoria took a lead less than a minute into the contest, Colton Dow tied it up three minutes later to close out the first period scoring. The Pioneers railed off three straight goals to open the second period - two by Bromley with one sandwiched in between by one from Mike Avery - before the Wolves responded with a pair to narrow the gap to two with just over three minutes left. Dave Yee restored the three goal cushion heading into the second intermission with two tallies in the final 2:16, Cam Taylor scored six minutes into the final frame, and the Pioneers hung on for their eleventh win of the season. Final shots in the close contest favoured Ladner 46-40, with Kevin Hill stopping 34 of 40 shots. Yee (2G), Bromley (2G), Dow (1G, 1A), Eric Ransom (2A) and Connor Davidson (2A) led Pioneers scoring.
The Pioneers' final game before the playoffs is Sunday July 16th when they visit the Nanaimo Timbermen.
